The end result of the Millions of years of erosion caused by wind and water is - Antelope Canyon. It is located in #Page, Arizona.
🦕🦖 The formation started during the time of dinosaurs. This canyon has two areas, #UpperAntelope, and #LowerAntelope. I have visited both at different times of the year to get a clear idea before I give you any insights about them.
How to Make Your Trip Plan?
🏔️🏔️The canyon is located in a part of the Navajo Nation close to Page, Arizona. As the Navajo Nation maintains, you cannot enter or hike on your own in this area. 🎒🚶♂️A Guided tour is required to enter and explore this Navajo Tribal Park.
As one of the most unique and visited slot canyons in the USA, you'll need to plan your visit well ahead of time to secure a spot on any of the guided tours. 📅 Let me walk you through some important checklists. 📋✅
Upper Vs. Antelope Canyon
First thing first. Which one should you pick? Upper or Lower?🤪🤔 Here you can find an exact concise overview of both canyons:
Upper Antelope Canyon | Lower Antelope Canyon |
Famous for gorgeous light beams coming out from the slot because of its wall heights (120 feet) and an elevation of about 4000 feet | No noticeable light beams |
Swirling and twisting of canyon walls for amazing photo opportunity | Almost the same geological formation |
Very Crowded so fewer photo opportunities without having someone completely unknown in your frame! | Less Crowded so you don't fill rushed to get a photo |
Easy to access and hike, so favorable for elders | Need to climb the stairs for a little bit. Not to hectic |
Ticket price is higher ranging from 80$-100$ per person | The ticket price is comparatively low ranging from 40$-60$ |
Tour starts from a point where the tour company will pick you up from the booking office parking lot in a jeep and drive you to the canyon entrance. | You have to walk a bit to reach the canyon entrance and from there have to climb down to enter the slot |

Haque's EYE:
Now that you can see the basic differences, let me give you my opinion and you can decide for yourself. 🤔✨
First, if you are a professional photographer 📸, you will have the opportunity to get those fascinating light beam photos in the Upper Antelope Canyon. 🌞🔦 The light beams are magical and can make for truly breathtaking shots! 🌟
Just for your information, the most expensive photo here was taken by Peter Lik named 👻👻"The Ghost", and the selling price was over 6 million dollars!
From April to October, you can get the perfect shots in Lower Antelope Canyon! 🌞📷 Book a #PrimeTime/Photo Tour with various #Navajo tour companies, with costs ranging from $125-$180. 💵✨
On normal tours, tripods are not allowed, but on a photo tour, you definitely should bring your tripod! 📸🎒
For #personalphotography or a tour, Lower Antelope Canyon can be your best bet. 🌌 My favorite was Upper Canyon, though! 🏜️❤️
A few shots from Upper Canyon Tour with Photography Tips!
#Tips to photograph the depth of the canyon is to stand still and take a vertical #panorama shot! 📷🖼️
If you are going to the Upper Antelope Canyon try to take the 10:30 AM-11:30 AM tour. You will get a good color tone at that time due to the dim light. 💡☀️
Try to pick the widest #focallength and minimize the #exposure to get the best color tone and clearer textures of the formation. 📸✨ This #ReddishColor is caused by iron oxides! 🌈🧲 Some shots from the Lower Canyon Tour are below! 👇
In Lower Antelope Canyon, sometimes the slots become very narrow and dark, which will give you a perfect composition for beautiful photos! 📸✨ For the best light, go there in the afternoon, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. That's when you can capture the most stunning shots! 🌞📷 Geologically, they are not much different from Upper Antelope Canyon, but each has its unique charm! 🌌🏞️
When to Visit?
For both the Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon tour the best time to go is from the last week of March to the first week of October. This time period is the peak time so two things to consider are, it would be pretty crowded and the ticket price would be higher!
😊🌍📸 Keep in mind that Antelope Canyon can be dangerous during the rainy season. 🌧️💦 Sometimes, due to floods or extreme heat, tours can get canceled. 😢☀️ In that case, you can get a full refund, but the travel and time you invested would be a total waste! 🚫⏳ So, always check the weather forecast and stay safe! 🌤️🛡️
Where to Stay?
🏙️ The nearest city is Page. There are so many cheap motels but to get a room book ahead of time. ⌚⏲️
Good to Know Before You Go!
🌄 If you're heading to the Navajo Nation, there's an $8 permit fee per person.
💸 You'll most likely need to pay by cash due to network issues that might prevent card payments. So, make sure to bring some cash with you! 🏦
Good news! If you’re visiting both canyons on the same day, you only need to pay this fee once! 🎉
The summer weather can be extremely hot. ☀️🔥 Be prepared with all your essentials: sunblock, shades, hats, and plenty of water. 🧴🕶️👒💧
So, what are you waiting for? Go and take some million-dollar photos! 📸 I'll see you in my next post. Until then, keep exploring with Haque's EYE! 🌍✨
