Dauphin Island, The Sunset Capital of Alabama!

Want to experience the best Sunset on the coast of Alabama? Keep reading this post.

How to Get There?

#Dauphinisland is called the #sunsetcapital of #Alabama! It is famous for its stretched white sand beaches with clear blue water and takes about 40 minutes to drive from #Mobile so it is a worthwhile stopover point if you are heading towards the gulf shore. A bridge connects the mainland and the island, and the view is spectacular!

How to Get the Most Out of Your Visit to Dauphin Island?

As I started on a fine moonlit night and reached there right at the time of sunrise, Dauphin gave me an awesome welcome with a tangy sunrise and cool breeze.

The island is so small that it won't take you over 15 minutes to drive through the city and reach the beach!

It was very relaxing to walk along the beach (without any human interaction, lol) and this is the quietest beach area I have ever seen in the US. So if you want to enjoy some alone time at a private beach setup, this is the place for you.

The west-facing beaches provide a perfect vantage point to witness the sun setting over the #GulfofMexico.

To spend a full day till sunset, you can explore:

  • Audubon Bird Sanctuary which covers 137 acres and features a variety of ecosystems. Dauphin Island is a renowned spot for birdwatching. It is part of the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail and serves as a critical rest stop for migratory birds, especially during the spring and fall.

The best thing about it is FREE!

  • The Estuarium at Dauphin Island Sea Lab where the interactive exhibits and aquariums offer an educational and entertaining experience for visitors of all ages. The Aquarium features a 10,000-square-foot Exhibit Hall, a stingray touch pool with a 7,000-gallon capacity, and the Living Marsh Boardwalk. With over 100 species showcased, the exhibits are intricately linked to the Alabama Watershed.

Ticket Price: 14$ per adult & $6.00 for children (5-18) or Students with ID

Hours: 9AM-5PM Daily

They have a touch tank where you can pet live sting rays during feeding time!

  • Fort Gaines is the most popular place around here, a well-preserved military fort that played a significant role in the Civil War.

Ticket Price: 10$ per adults & 5$ for children under 12

Open daily 9Am-5PM except on holidays

There is a small town with few restaurants and some gas stations at the entrance with restroom facilities.

It is a small island with lots of vacation homes. Most are owned by people from colder states like Michigan, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

Inside the town area, cute little colorful condos can be a great backdrop for your pictures!

Haque’s Eye:

If you want to shorten the drive the way back to the gulf shore, simply take the ferry. This ferry connecting Fort Gaines and Fort Morgan takes about 40 mins! Whereas you have to drive 2 hours to get there by road. A bonus is the amazing view of the mobile bay from the ferry.

See you in some other corner of the world. Till then HAPPY TRAVELLING!!!
